Why convert HEIC?

iPhones save photos as HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) by default. The files are small and good quality, but many websites, Windows PCs and government upload forms do not accept them. Services Australia, for example, lists PDF, PNG and JPEG as the accepted formats for Centrelink uploads, and ImmiAccount accepts jpg but not HEIC. Converting to JPG avoids an upload error.

How to use it

  1. Choose or drop up to 20 .heic or .heif photos.
  2. Pick high or medium quality.
  3. Select Convert to JPG and download each photo.

Private by design

Conversion uses the open-source heic2any library, which FileKivo hosts itself and which decodes the image inside your browser. Photos of documents, ID cards and family members stay on your device.

Tips

HEIC decoding is heavy work, so large batches can take a little while on older phones. If the JPG is too big for a form, follow up with Compress to 200 KB or Compress an image. To stop your iPhone creating HEIC files in future, go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose "Most Compatible".
