DVA MyService document upload limits: file types and 50 MB
MyService is the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) online service for claims and support. Its page on common errors states what you can attach to a claim. This guide summarises that page and shows how to prepare your files. Always follow any instructions shown in the claim itself.
The upload rule
DVA says that MyService only accepts PDF, JPEG and PNG file types, and a maximum file size of 50 MB. It adds that other file types can generally be converted to PDF by exporting, saving or printing to PDF, and then uploaded as a PDF.
If a claim text box gives you errors
DVA suggests typing long information into a separate document and uploading it as an attachment instead. Refer to the attachment by its title in the text box. After you submit the claim, you can find it in your Claims list, choose Add documents and upload the document in the Other field.
Getting your files ready
- Phone photo saved as HEIC? That is not on DVA's list. Convert HEIC to JPG first.
- WebP or another image format? Use WebP to JPG or the image converter to get a JPEG or PNG.
- Several photos of one document? Combine them with Images to PDF.
- Several PDFs? Merge them into one, or remove unneeded pages with Delete pages from a PDF.
- Sideways scan? Fix it with Rotate PDF or Rotate image.
- Close to the limit? 50 MB is generous, but a slow connection can still fail on a big file. Compress the PDF if you can.
Other things DVA says can cause errors
DVA also advises using the dd/mm/yyyy date format (choosing from the calendar where one is offered), typing only numbers in phone fields, and avoiding stray hidden characters or special characters in text fields. It notes that MyService signs you out after 60 minutes of inactivity when accessed through myGov, or 30 minutes through PRODA and MyOrg, so save your progress as you go.
