Medicare online claim upload limits
When you make a Medicare claim in your online account, you need to upload a copy of your invoice and receipt. Services Australia lists these file rules.
The rules
- Accepted formats: PDF, JPG, GIF, PNG or BMP.
- Files must be less than 5MB. The proof of payment page says images must be less than 5MB in total.
Taking a good image
Services Australia's advice for proof of payment is to separate pages that are stapled together, place each page on a flat surface in a well-lit area, make sure all the information on the page is visible, and make sure nothing is blocking the document.
Fitting under 5MB
- Modern phone photos can be 3–8 MB each. Compress them with Compress to 200 KB or a custom limit — a receipt is still perfectly readable at a few hundred KB.
- Several receipts? Put them into one document with Images to PDF, then check the total size.
- Scanned PDF too large? Use Compress PDF.
- iPhone HEIC photo? HEIC isn't in the list; convert to JPG.
Privacy
Medical receipts contain sensitive details. FileKivo tools work entirely in your browser, so nothing is uploaded to FileKivo. If you use a public computer, Services Australia suggests deleting your documents from it after you finish your claim.
