How to compress an image under 200 KB
An upload form may reject a photo for several different reasons: file size, image dimensions or format. This guide shows what the current compression tool changes and what you still need to check.
Read the entire upload rule
Check the accepted format and any minimum width or height as well as the file-size limit. This tool treats 200 KB as 200,000 bytes. A form may use a different convention. Choosing a slightly smaller target can leave room below a strict limit, but it may reduce detail further.
Choose the 200 KB shortcut
Select a still JPG, PNG or WebP, then choose JPG or WebP output. The compressor first searches for a quality setting that fits. When that is not enough, it reduces dimensions as well. PNG is not offered as a target-compression output in this version.
Check more than the file size
The result displays the actual output size and dimensions. Open the downloaded copy and check fine print, faces and edges. A successful size check does not guarantee that a form will accept the image or that the quality is suitable for your purpose.
Keep your original
The tool creates a new copy. Do not delete the original after compression. If the reduced image loses too much detail, use a higher permitted size limit or another submission method accepted by the receiving service.
Example of the distinction: A 1600 × 900 photo may need fewer pixels to fit under 200 KB. The compression result tells you its final dimensions, so you can compare them with the form's separate pixel requirement.
